The idea of "Alger Alpacas" was formed at 30,000 feet, in September 1997. On our way home from a family vacation Don happened to be looking through the flight magazine and saw an ad on Alpacas. I had seen the same ad and thought "cute." But Don read the part about income potential. He looked at me, pointed to the ad, and said, "we are going to do this." Once home, Don started doing internet research. He found some farms for us to visit; needless to day, we got hooked.

That was over 12 years ago!  November of 1997 we purchased our first 3 female alpacas.  In the spring of 1998 we had 3 female crias and our little Alger Alpacas herd began.  Over the next 4 years we continued to grow our herd and establish a business plan involving several different aspects of the alpaca life.

"Full -time" alpaca rancher has meant approximately 15 to 20 hours a week caring for the alpacas and time spent in sales and marketing. We have had as many 50 alpacas on the farm at one time and discovered that 20 / 25 is a nice number  when running a farm totally on your own. It allows for the personal attention we want to give each animal.
In 2003 a new and exciting concept - Alpaca Partners was created.  We joined forces with CountryTime Alpacas, combining our selection of alpacas, services, support and experience. This has allowed each of our farms to maintain the small farm approach while giving you the selection, quality and services of larger farms. Working together as AlpacaPartners we have sold over 80 alpacas and started approximately 20 farms while still maintaining each of our own small farm appeal.

As 2009 comes to a close Don and I have decided to transition into retirement. We have reached a point in time that we see new and exciting things in our future. We want to start moving our alpacas onto good new farms that are ready to take our place in the alpaca world or are already there and want to add our wonderful alpacas to their herd. The alpaca business has been very rewarding for us. Therefore, the most important goal of our “transition” is placing our alpacas in excellent situations and offering each farm that purchases our alpacas all of our support. What that means to you… is extremely good deals!!! (discounts on the listed price). Alger Alpacas is not moving away and we will most likely have a few of our “senior citizen” alpacas with us their remaining years – along with some agistment clients. We invite you to come for a visit and see in person all that we have to offer.  With every alpaca purchase you are also tapping into 12+ years experience and we will share it all with you!!!
We look forward to meeting you soon...
